Hide and Seek

Because it's so easy to find me and my blog on the Web, I have a sneaking suspicion that there are people I know in real life who read my blog but haven't made their presence known. I'm absolutely fine with that as I have nothing to hide and I like my growing readership, but I'd like to make a request: if you read my blog and I know you from outside the blogosphere (and you haven't already made yourself known), please leave me a comment or drop me a line (there's a link on the right side). I'd love to connect with old friends (like Tori from Visalia!), as well as know who in my real life (like co-workers) might be reading this so I don't tell you a story I've posted on my blog to you in real life, sparing you the potential awkwardness of you having to fake a reaction.

Honestly, the biggest reason for this plea is the first rule in writing: it's important to know your audience!

For those of you whom read my blog and have blogs of your own, I'd be interested in knowing if you limit who knows about your blog. Do you try to keep it anonymous and if so, why? If not, why not?

Inquiring minds want to know!

  1. For a while, D. (fiance) was the only one who knew about my blog. I slowly started revealing my blog over the past few months. First to my friend Mel (whose blog I'd been reading for almost a year: New Leaves in March -check my links) You'd like her, you share the same taste in music (like me). Then to my best friend and most recently my mom. Different family and friends of D. read it every once in a while. They find it through his site and I'm cool with that now.

I struggled with it before because my blog used to be very personal. If you look in my archives, there's all sorts of mention of my ex-husband who was extremely abusive. I used my blog as therapy and to vent, and I was afraid of scaring our friends and family and stirring up bad memories for them. I've come to terms with all of that and moved on.

There's some mention of the past occassionally, but since I focus on life now on my blog & I'm proud of myself for being strong enough to get through what I did - I'm glad to share.

  2. I SWEAR I only told one person at work - the other one lied. =) I tell people about my blog when they ask. I don't want everyone I know to read it but I don't want to hide it either. Tough call.

  3. I'm not sure if people (meaning friends) I know are reading my blog. I don't think so because they email me saying, how are you doing? Oh well, its for the best since now I can write about them! I do know people that email me or tell me they read but they never comment. I admit sometimes I do read but don;t comment.

  5. Hee, hee. To clarify Jen's comment above...that's my co-worker Jen. She is one of the few co-workers who know about my blog. She mentioned it to another co-worker over the weekend, who then asked me about my blog. I had to hush her a little bit because, like Jen, I'll tell people if they ask, but I'm not publicizing it.

As I said, I don't mind that people know about it. I'm curious to know who knows. :)

  6. After having an old blog that I did tell people about, I ended up feeling like I sometimes had to censor or edit what I said. So, since I've started my new one, I've kept it secret. It's easier to be honest when you feel anonymous...at least for me.

It's official. I read your blog, Ms. P. I do enjoy it and I thank you for writing it. How else would I come to know that the LAPD do, in fact, respond to calls regarding lost birds?

  8. I try to keep mine hidden from work persons because I don't think my personal life is any of their business. I try not to write about work much, so either way it's okay. My boyfriend reads it, my roomie reads it.. it's just to keep people up to date on me.

  11. I don't advertise my blog. I write things in it I prefer to remain annonymous for the most part. A few friends know and that is all. They really get bored by blogs they prefer a dead journal where we converse amomg each other, so i keep one of them as well.

  12. I only tell my really close friends, and friends who blog. Other than that it is strangers only. It makes me uncomfortable to have people that I kind of know reading my inner most thoughts. Yikes.

    BTW, I love your blog!
