Dish it up

What I overheard from the kitchen while Brent prepared a surprise dinner for us tonight:

"This is going to turn out delicious or we're going to In'N'Out. Either way we're going to have a yummy dinner."

"I think I'm going a little overboard."

"Will you still love me if this doesn't turn out ok?"

"This is a LOT of food!"

"Cooking is stressful."

"Where's the cookie sheet?" (I used it to take the cupcakes to work today...and left it there.)

"Oh, you gotta be kidding me??? I messed up on a step."

"Are you dying? I think this will be worth it!"

"We're getting close!"

"Does effort get me anything?...I'm serious!"

"The really hard thing is making it all come out at once."

"It's not my fault the oven sucks!"

"I get the feeling that this is going to be one of those times where we're going to look back and say, 'Remember when you did that stupid thing?' "

(noticing that I'm typing...) "Wait! Are you live blogging this??? You are, aren't you??? That's it! No food for you! .... STOP IT! ... I better get a good write-up afterward."

He indeed gets a fabulous write-up! He made grilled herb garlic shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes and served it with a side of corn salad from Whole Foods. He even added parsley! (His mom is the queen of garnish!)

Valentine's Dinner

He topped it off with a lemon tart from Whole Foods. Definitely fiance-of-the-year material!

"Happy is said to be the family which can eat onions together. They are, for the time being, separate, from the world, and have a harmony of aspiration." - Charles Dudley Warner

  1. In & Out is open for 24 hours because if Jack Bauer wants a double double, goddamit Jack Bauer gets a f*ing double double.

  2. That looks good! Doesn't even look like a "home" meal. Good job Brent!

  3. YUMMY - hurrah! :) Happy Valentine's!

  4. He does get an award for that. Sounds soooo good. Especially to those of us who had a sandwich while sitting in writing class...

  5. Yay! That sounds so good!

  6. So funny! And I've totally used the "you know this oven sucks" line before! :)

Looks like he did a fabulous job! Kudos, Brent! :)

  7. Aw. He should get an award for that. Looks yummy!

Definitely looks good. Steve made steak, brocolli and some ravioli for me. He had the same issue about having all the various entrees done at the same time. Timing is hard, but it's always worth it. Hope you and Brent had a lovely evening. - Lynn

What a sweetie and it looks very yummy! Greg took my mom and I out to dinner since my Dad was having another procedure done. :) Fiance of the year number 2! Kelli
