Why can't people drive right? And I'm just talking about basic, common knowledge stuff that so many freakin' drivers just don't get!
- Hang up the phone! If you're not on an open road, do not be distracted by a cell conversation about your latest Saturday night escapades. Ya keep swerving into MY LANE or you're driving 25 MPH in a 45 zone!
- Eat when you get there! Yesterday I was behind a snail-paced car only to discover that the reason she was driving so slow was because she was eating...Chinese take-out....with a fork!
- Do your hair/make-up BEFORE you leave your house or when you get where you're going! This morning I was behind a woman who spent a good 30-seconds with both hands OFF the wheel while she tried to fix her hair. And don't get me started about women who try to do their mascara....on the freeway!
I'm sure there are plenty more examples, but these recent incidents stick out for now. And people wonder why the streets of LA are filled with road rage.
Brent is still working on the payment details for the accident he was in two weeks ago. He's definitely getting a new car and is trying to decide what to get. I'm probably going to be getting a new car in the near future, too, so I'm interested in the following:
1. What do you drive? (You can say what kind of car, not the exact make.)
2. Do you like it? Would you recommend it?
3. If you don't like it, why not? Or is there anything you'd change about your car?
"I am driving up 85 in the kind of morning that lasts all afternoon. Just stuck inside the gloom. Four more exits to my apartment but I am tempted to keep the car in drive. And leave it all behind."- Why Georgia Why, John Mayer

1)8 year-old VW Jetta.
ReplyDelete2)It's okay...lots of trunk space, but it has given me problems over the years and the gas mileage is sucking lately
3)I'm looking into getting a new car myself. Hopefully a Scion xA. Small, cute, good gas mileage (30+) and affordable.
We have three cars- an old 80's era Lumina that we LOVE, its huge and such a grandpa car (ok, it was my grandpa's, he left it to us when he died) but its so comfy and the trunk is HUGE and it gets incredible mileage! I feel so safe in that baby! The car I drive on a daily basis is a Ford Escort. It was my MIL's and she gave it to us when she bought a new car (we always have hand me down cars, beats the hell out of a car payment! I'll take free anyday)
ReplyDeleteFinally in March we finally bought our first car, a Suburu Outback and it is the BEST CAR ever. Our mechanic told us they never work on Suburu's because they never break down. The dealor we bought it from has been driving the same Suburu for 20 years. Its a great car.
I'm with you on the stupid drivers. I wish people would remember the rules of the road! Today I had some idiot pull out right in front of me and STOP! he's lucky I have good brakes! Every day I get cut off by people making a right turn on red, which is legal, but only if there is no one coming down the road you are turning onto! They just keep going like they have the right of way!
FYI, I thought your Scranton reader might be me, but I think my ISP shows up as Buffalo because of our cable provider?
I don;t have a car...but thinking about the Mazda eventually!
ReplyDeleteI do see a lot of stupid driving here. PEOPLE DON'T SIGNAL!!!
I drive a Volvo S40 - the small sedan - and I LOVE it. We weren't looking to buy a Volvo, but we got it used w/only 4500 miles on it so we couldn't pass it up. It is super comfy, gets good gas mileage and has lots of zip. The big question is whether you want a car that will work in the future when you have kids! My car works with one car seat, but it was SUPER cramped in the front passenger seat until we were able to flip the seat around to be front facing. If/when we have another kid we will have to upgrade to a bigger car.
ReplyDeletei love when i see people reading the newspaper while driving. or wearing their earbuds. that's safe.
ReplyDeleteI've got a Toyota Highlander. Tons of room - It can seat 7 (2 way in the back) uncomfortably in a pinch. It drives nicely and ideal for long trips or freeway driving. Gas is ridiculous, but then...it's expensive regardless.
ReplyDeleteDaniel has a Saturn Ion that he really likes. Every once in a while I get a hankering to drive it and request that we switch. It's fun and zips along nicely. Oh, and it was Super Affordable.
Bakersfield drivers are big fans of running red lights...and tailgating. Ridiculous.
I have a 2002 Nissan Altima: LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteThe cell phone and driving makes me insane too.
I love love love love my Nissan Murano.
ReplyDeleteI can get you a discount on any Nissan or Infiniti vehicle that you want. Just let me know!

2005 Elantra. I love it and it didn't break the bank.
ReplyDelete2003 Elantra, and I love mine too! it's gets "good" gas milage but i wish it got a little better but that may just be a driving in l.a. traffic sort of thing. tons of space, huge hatchback trunk and it's comfortable.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just in LA. People every drive like idiots. Except for us, of course.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a 1998 Nissan Altima. Loved it.
Alas, had to trade it in for a 2005 Nissan Quest. And I love it.
Happy InWeDay, btw.
Hi From Canada,
ReplyDeleteI know your roads in California and I dont know how any car can deal with heat and altitude(in some areas) all together.
I have an korean car. It is a 4 door sedan, and I have one sister of it that is a 4 door hatchback(mini stn wagon like.
Their brand has a shark as one of their sports cars.
I have been buying them since 1999. I own a driving school so they get alot of miles on them.
I am really happy as they're cheap to fix and are very reliable. Got hit by someone in a parking lot and the whole bumper cost and labor was cheaper than my friend's mustang mirror to replace. These cars are great on gas, close to second to the Jetta for miles per gallon. The whole exhaust system has an 8 yr warrantee. And they are cheap! They hold up well on a 4 yr lease. Still look new. And they take alot of abuse. The downfall is they have cheap clear coat as they all do now, so get the clear coat enhancement pkg.
Happy International Webloggers' Day!

Me again!
ReplyDeleteAfter I read the post I finally got to look at the wedding shots.
I looked at them.
And then me and my (20yr old) son looked at them again.
We are wannabe photographers.
They are magazine perfect!
The most beautiful wedding shots I have ever seen!
Breathtaking!

I have a Ford Escape and I really love it. It has the room and comfort of a SUV but it still drives like a car. It gets decent gas mileage (about 22mpg on average), but it would be nice to have something cheaper to run. I've also heard good things about the Toyota Highlander, especially the hybrid version.
ReplyDeleteFord Explorer Sport-I LOVE it!!
ReplyDeletecompact size SUV--if there is such a thing, hee!
Cell phone users get an earpiece it makes driving and talking on the road that much easier, hee hee.
i have a 2006 honda civic and I love it so much and I never thought I would be a car person.
ReplyDeletethe dashboard is all computerized, so it tells you when the oil is low and when it needs to be serviced.
it has speed volume control; the faster you drive your music automatically becomes louder.
great mileage. it has won lots of awards for design and safety and most honda owners I know have their car for years!!!
I have a Honda Element and I LOVE it! Good mileage, great for hauling everything! And it's cute too...
