Too close for comfort

This morning I decided to stop by the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf just around the corner from my place. The one stoplight between my house and the coffee place was green. I started to speed up in order to make the light, but for whatever reason, I slowed down.

The next thing I know a big rig truck barrels through the red light on the perpendicular street. If I had sped up as originally planned, he would have nailed me and my little car. The worst part? I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I never do this (I feel naked without a seatbelt on), but I somehow rationalized in my head that it was only one block away. "What's the worst that could happen between here and there?" *Gulp*

So, thankfully everything (and everyone - especially me) is alright, but that close call has had me a bit shaken all day. And I will never, ever leave my parking garage without wearing my seatbelt again.

You know that they(newstypes)say most accidents happen less than a mile from home. Wear your seatbelt and be safe! I am glad that you are OK!

  5. I Always Wear My Seatbelt, even when I sit in The Back Seat, ever since Princess Diana Died. She wasn't Wearing A Seatbelt, and I read that A Seatbelt could have Saved Her Life.

  6. Studies show that most accidents occur close to home. I too always feel naked without it; it's so automatic for me that I put it on as soon as my butt hits the seat, even if the driver and I haven't decided on a destination yet and I could be sitting there for the longest time, but at least I'm buckled up and ready to go when we do! =)

  8. this is EXACTLY what happened to me when my daughter was 8 mos old. I was driving, without my seat belt (talking on my cell phone). As soon as I hung up I remembered to put it on. Right after I heard the "click" sound of the seat belt fastening, I saw this black Jetta make a left turn in front of me (trying to beat my car through the intersection - no other reason to rush) and he slams into the front/side of my car. Worse part was that it was an older car and my daughter was in teh front seat (in her carseat of course).
Everything was ok... but I know exactly how you feel.

Chalk it up to a lesson learned. Glad you're still fabulous!

Glad you are OK - that is a very scary situation. I would have been shaken all day too. I am so used to my seatbelt that I can't concentrate unless I'm wearing it - I'm a safety girl, I guess!
