She will be loved

Not that I ever doubted it, but I have lots of love in my life. I'm loved all year round, but this Valentine's season showed me love in the form of handmade crafts, Hello Kitty bubble gum dispenser, Paul Frank pin and Kate Spade chocolate from my blogger bestie, a handmade valentine filled with chocolate and a bookmark from the little homeless girl I tutor and a handmade valentine card from my favorite 3-year-old girl.

Tonight Brent arrived home with flowers and groceries, then proceeded to cook me a magnificent dish based on a recipe he saw on Top Chef. It was delicious and followed by some red velvet cupcakes, also brought home by my fabulous hubby. (He also spotted this guy from Heroes at the grocery store, looking confused by all his choices.)

The dinner and dessert followed my weekly tutoring session. I spoke with her mom before the session, and she mentioned that they'd be moving from the shelter to more permanent housing this week. She mentioned something about bringing her daughter back weekly for our tutoring sessions as her new place is nearby, but I didn't think the volunteer program I'm part of would go for it. My heart sunk and I was so sad, realizing just how attached I'd become to the little girl that I've been working with weekly for a couple of months.

She and I had our session, I gave her my Valentine's gift (a few little things I'd picked up at Sanrio, some cookies I made for her and her family, and a card) and we said good-bye. Then I spoke with the shelter coordinator and she told me that the program I'm with allows me to continue tutoring the little girl if the mom wants to bring her to the shelter. So I'll be very happy if we can make this work. If not, then I'll be set up with another child who needs my help, which will be fine but just not the same.

  1. Sounds like a great way to spend V'Day. Red velvet cake is too pretty. I should have thought of that ... but I made hubby lemon bars which he adored, so I guess all is good.

  2. That sounds like a great Valentine's day!

Ok, tell me how the recipe turned out. I make fideo very often but I'd never even heard of them being baked until Ilan did it. I've meaning to try it.

I hope it works out with the girl you're tutoring.

  3. I absolutely LOVE that Brent cooked dinner. How freakin fab! How'd it turn out??

And it is so awesome that you tutor that little girl. I give you major kudos for giving up your own precious time for that :-)
