My closest friends have moved far, far away. Stacie did it last month when she got hitched and moved to Texas. And Shelby did it this month when she said, "I do" and then, "I'm outta here!," packing up and moving to Iowa.
When they lived in California, we weren't exactly next door neighbors. Stacie lived in Sacramento and Shelby lived in Central California. We still managed to see each other fairly often. I always made it a point to see Shelby when drove up to visit my mom. She was great about coming to visit me in between those visits. Stacie and I were concert buddies, taking turns to visit each other and catching the shows of our favorite artists when they came to our cities.
But now they're far, far away. We're not even in the same timezones! In the 24 years we've been friends (yes, 24!!!), we've never lived in different states. Sure, there's a reason why they invented planes and email and phones. And we're going to try our best to not let too much time pass between visits, but I'm still sad to have them so far away.
Lucky for me, Shelby started a blog! And I'm going to share it with you! So head over to her blog and give her lots of love! Read all about her adventures!
Now if I can just get Stacie to start one...
"We all lose friends... we lose them in death, to distance and over time. But even though they may be lost, hope is not. The key is to keep them in your heart, and when the time is right, you can pick up the friendship right where you left off. Even the lost find their way home when you leave the light on." - Amy Marie Waltz

I read this as "beasties." Sorry. Blame it on the cold I'm fighting. I've always been the one to move away and it's hard for us too. I never lived in one place for so long though. I've been here in L.A. for the longest I've been anywhere (12 years). You are lucky to have such good friends and I have a feeling that you will stay in good touch.
ReplyDeleteDid you forget about your other bestie way out here in VA!! Where's the love :-)

Change!!! Can't get away from it. But hopefully there will be some positive things with it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not lost! Just having some fun on a new adventure so if anyone wants to read about it, head on over :o)
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. My best friend is moving to Seattle in a month... At least it's a great place to visit.
ReplyDeleteAw, Nanners! My two besties moved to Austin when we were teens, and we are still BFFs. It totally sucks. I know.
ReplyDeleteI'll go stop by Shelby!
Andrea - Believe me, I'm still traumatized from your move to the East coast!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same situation. All my best friends live far away or are planning on it. It sucks. But email and chat do help.
ReplyDeleteI hear you Nanners! My closest girlfriend moved to Colorado just this afternoon - it sucks. She has kept me sane for the past couple of years, especially after we both had kids and struggled through the "joys" of early parenthood. But, IM, email and visits will keep us together, I hope.
