Weekend recap

Last night I attended a special show for Maroon 5 at the Troubadour, one of my favorite tiny venues to catch shows.

Because it's such a small venue, they only allowed the fan club to buy one ticket per member, which was sad for me as none of my friends are also members. And I don't think they sold any tix to the public. I think the few non-fan club concert attendees had tix from the concert sponsor, Verizon.

I was sad at the thought of going to a show by myself. I've eaten out in restaurants and seen movies on my own, but never a concert. I sucked it up and went alone.

They let the fan club members in early for the sound check and a Q&A session, which was a lot of fun. After a grueling 4 hours on my feet, the band hit the stage for their show. It. Was. AMAZING! They did a great set from both their albums. And with such a small venue it was easy to get close to the stage, making for an even more memorable, unique concert experience, considering that they've grown to play more and more arenas these days.

And it wasn't so bad attending all by my lonesome. I had to make an effort to chat up some other attendees, but other than that, it was better than I expected.

Here's a mini collage of pics of Adam, the lead singer. Yes, that is a vest he's wearing, but he has the body to rock it with no problem.

I rocked out myself this weekend as I broke in my latest toy, Guitar Hero II for our PS2. After a few hours of playing, I made it to level 8, "Face Melting" licks. Even Brent is into this game, unlike my other video games (Dance Dance Revolution, Karaoke Revolution).

Today we saw Knocked Up. Although long for a comedy (2 hours), we both enjoyed it. The storylines were quite entertaining and it was well cast. And it made me appreciate how well Brent and I get along. We really don't fight, and I'm amazed at people who fight constantly and think they have a healthy relationship.

I ended the weekend with a fun gathering of a bunch of my gal pals. It's nice to have such a great circle of friends to enjoy.

  2. Well the good news is, we both have great taste!! Yesterday I was at Circuit City and saw a sign for a Guitar Hero contest. $100 grand prize, you should definitely consider it! Perfect reason to travel across the country. Ohhh & when you link Weezermonkey up, make sure to add the JQ Lounge!!! :)

  3. Love, love, love the Troubadour. It's the second venue I saw Ben Folds Five play in many years ago...right up against the stage, next to Ben. (I really should scan in some of the photos Eric took).

Looking forward to Knocked Up. I love Judd Apatow's work and after that damn pirate movie, it will probably feel short.

  5. I never paid much attention to Maroon 5 until I saw them on American Idol. Then I found their leading man intriguingly good-looking. Hope it was fun!
