It was so hot last night that I couldn't bring myself to do my weekend recap, so here goes (as I sit with a fan pointing at me).
Friday night I was craving some authentic ramen (as opposed to ramen a la cup o' noodles) so we went to our favorite ramen place. With bellies full of expanding noodles we skipped Pinkberry yogurt, as I had originally wanted, but did pick up some mochi filled with sweet red bean. Oh, my. Delicious!
Saturday we lazed around the house, complaining about the heat, complaining that we were bored, so we took a field trip to a grocery store. Yup, you read that correctly - a field trip. To a grocery store. (Or as Brent and his family like to say, "the market.") But my dear blog readers, not just any grocery store. A GIGANTIC Whole Foods! I'd heard that it was huge and that it had an unbelievable amount of prepared foods sections, but we had to see it to believe it. And we believe it. Check out this press release for a list of everything it has to offer. You can go to the meat counter, choose some meat, have them grill it and bring it to you in the store's wine lounge. Brent and I were overwhelmed by the choices, so we left with only some Brussels sprouts (Brent's fav, not mine) and some dried Japanese pumpkin... mmm... Maybe I'll head back to stock up for our birthday BBQ later this month.
That evening we had dinner at Tender Greens, where I had the best chicken ever. So moist and tasty. If you live in the area and haven't been, go!
We had planned to check out fireworks on the 4th at the nearby community college, but it turns out that they had their big display on Saturday night. We discovered that as we heard the big kabooms. We were able to catch part of it, but we were kinda bummed to have missed most of it.
Sunday we hit the gym and then lounged by my in-laws' pool. Then we had dinner with Brent's parents.
It was a relatively lazy weekend, which was perfectly fine with me.

ReplyDeleteAre you coming to our July 4th BBQ? I don't think you read the evite yet -- let me know if I need to resend it.
xoxo,

I think a mochi field trip is in order. You love mochi. Jenny loves mochi. I love mochi. We need to go to a mochi shop on Sawtelle or in Little Tokyo. Red bean is classic (and almost everyone's fave), but I may be an even bigger fan of peanut sugar dust, sweet black sesame, and sweet chestnut fillings, which both of you must sample, if you haven't tried them already!
ReplyDeleteDid I read correctly? A giant Whole Foods? I'll have to make a field trip to check it out. Did the field trip involve hanging around the freezer section?
ReplyDeleteIn addition I'll have to check out Tender Greens.
Food, so lovely...
Ramen. Whole Foods. Mochi. Sounds like one of my weekends.
ReplyDeletehaha! my stepdad says "the market", too. i always giggle when i hear it. does brent say "pop" instead of "soda"?
ReplyDeletemmmm, mochi.
i say pop instead of soda. that's a minnesotan thing. almost no one here calls it soda. usually we think you're talking about soda water then. :)
ReplyDeleteYour Whole Foods had me with "hand cut cheeses" OMG...I thought the wall of cheese at Central Market was to die for. THEN the fresh baked goods and TAPAS...*faint*
ReplyDeleteOh my! I work around the corner from that new Whole Foods. I had no idea! Guess where I'm going at lunch today?! :)
ReplyDeleteHere in Louisiana (especially in New Orleans) we say "making groceries" - meaning food shopping. Love me some mochi but I highly recommend mochi icecream. It's even better if you can get it fresh.
