Cupcakes in combat

I just heard that a new cupcake place is opening here in Southern California this Friday. It's a New York transplant called Crumbs. As if there isn't enough baked goods battling going on with cupcakery after cupcakery popping up, this one is reportedly just two blocks away from the infamous Sprinkles in Beverly Hills!

I want to see them battle it out on Beverly Boulevard, a la West Side Story. We'll have to do a cupcake toss to see who gets to be the Jets and who gets to be the Sharks. Call frosting or tails!

I wonder if Sprinkles' massive line will dwindle at all, at least on Friday. While I think Sprinkles is good, I don't go simply because there are plenty of other quality cupcake places in So. Cal that don't require you to wait in a line for 15+ minutes. So I'm not exactly rooting for Sprinkles. I'm claiming Switzerland on this one, at least until I get my grubby little hands on a Crumbs cupcake for myself.

It seems as though at least part of my hope of a chicken in every pot and a cupcakery on every corner is coming true!

  1. OMG, I love Crumbs! I wrote a blog post about them after my trip to NYC last year. I love their cupcakes. So. Unnecessarily. Excited.

  3. Oh wow! And I was starting to think that the whole cupcake thing was going to die down while froyo takes over. I guess not!

I'm looking forward to a report from you and then I might have to make a trek up there!

  4. I totally have this image of a pink cupcake doing battle with a yellow cupcake. I feel like doodling it. Thanks for the inspiration and let us know which is better.

  7. Sprinkles is WAY overrated if you ask me (which you didn't). There are much better cupcake places than that. Um, having said that though, the thing to do with Sprinkles is place your order online beforehand. Then you can just bop in, cut to the front of the line (they have a separate area for pick-ups), and watch all the suckers in line watch you stroll out without waiting. Good times.

  8. (that's weird...I left a comment and then it disappeared...)I'm rooting for Crumbs, I like the underdogs. With the baked goodness, frozen yogurt and coffee shops on nearly every corner, us foodie consumers have too many options!

  11. I"ve yet to visit Sprinkles (though I did enjoy one at book club). I tend to visit Yummy Cupcakes in Burbank when the mood strikes. Though I have been wanting to try out the new place in Eagle Rock (no clue on the name) and Cupcakes on Ventura.
