Under the stars

Google Weather lies. It said it was going to be 70 degrees this weekend in Santa Monica. Liar, liar, I'm on fire. And don't get me started on how crazy the town is right about now thanks to all the So. Cal folks who have swarmed to the beach.

Oh, and I think I may have overdone it at the gym today as my arms are so shaky, it's hard to type!

Last night Brent and I went to our first (and unfortunately, last) screening of the year at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. We didn't go at all last year because we didn't want to battle all the crowds now that the events are insanely popular, but we braved it last night to picnic under the stars. We ran into our friends, Bree and Leif, which was a very nice surprise! We would have loved to have shared a blanket if we hadn't been in the chairs section. (They were sans chairs.) Either way, I'm sad we couldn't make it work last night but we'll give it another try next year.

The movie they screened was "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" starring Joan Crawford and Betty Davis. Quite an interesting film, although Brent almost fell asleep at one point. My boss warned me that it was very campy and that we'd be laughing a lot (not at the delight of the film makers, I'm sure). She was right. I'm not familiar with either of the stars' works, although I've seen the Joan Crawford biography "Mommie Dearest" a gazillion times.

It was another nice, relaxing date night under the stars and above the dead.*
Waiting for the movie to begin.

*Not really on top of the dead. We sit on an open grass area next to the mausoleum.

"Going to the cinema is like returning to the womb; you sit there, still and meditative in the darkness, waiting for life to appear on the screen." - Federico Fellini

  1. I'm glad to know you weren't literally on top of the dead. ;)

  2. Have never been to Hollywood Forever, but I have always wanted to go. Glad to hear it was fun!

  3. That's something I've always wanted to do, but haven't gotten around to it. Baby Jane, terribly disturbing movie.

Went to Venice today, OMG, very hot and very humid and VERY crowded.

  4. This was A Favorite Date of Me and TAB last year!! We went Twice -- once to see Invasion of the Body Snatchers and later to see Dawn of the Dead. We always had A Great, Romantic Time! ( I think one of the movies was like only our Second or Third Date!) Sadly, we never made it this summer. Glad you guys had such A Fun Time!!!

  5. That sounds so fun! That would have been really weird if you really did sit on top of the dead.

  6. hey, i drove right by hollywood forever yesterday! i suggested checking out one of the screenings to the hub earlier this summer, but once he understood WHERE it was, i knew it was a no-go. ha!

glad you had fun, though. AND an SFAM sighting! cool :)

  7. I've always wondered about the screenings at Hollywood Forever. They are as popular as ever according to your experience. Maybe I should do it once just because.

  8. I was traumatized after seeing "Whatever happened to Baby Jane". Joan Crawford played a helluva psycho. Plus I was only 10 yrs old.

  9. I want to do something like this with Hubbs. Too bad it's too far away for us.
