This morning while getting ready, I could smell the smoke, although the flames aren't threatening our little beach community. It's the smoke from the nearby Malibu fires.
From my fourth floor office, I can see a band of smoke lining the lowest portion of the sky.
My brother called yesterday. He's a fire fighter in Central California and he's hoping to get the call to come down to So. Cal to assist.
And last night I took a co-worker from our Singapore office out to show her some of the Los Angeles sites. We went to my Santa Monica neighborhood, where we visited the beach, boardwalk and nearby shopping area. We watched the sunset, an intense red through the fire's smoke.

It's a shame that such a gorgeous sunset comes at such a high price.
I hope everyone stays safe. My thoughts go out to everyone dealing with this destruction.

it is quiet scary---steve's aunt and cousin lives in sd and had to evacute---we offered up our home but they seem to be okay at least for now, so i hope they will be okay and pray that every affected by the fires are okay as well
ReplyDeleteI know way too many people who have been evacuated already. One's house almost burned down, another we're waiting to hear if their house is still there. It's a very scary time and I hope they're able to put a stop to the fires very soon.
ReplyDeleteI've been watching the news coverage on this and I think its insane!
ReplyDeleteI hope all your friends/family are okay. I'd be freaking out.
It's really scary. 250,000 people evacuated in San Diego. Hundreds of homes destroyed in Lake Arrowhead. I could smell the fires this morning from my house in Corona. The smoke from the Arrowhead fires is completely blocking out the mountains. I hope the winds die down soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's horrible. My parents had to evacuate yesterday and spent the night in a seedy motel in San Diego because all the hotels are totally booked. I'm trying to talk them into come up here since they still can't go home, but they want to keep my dad's office open.
ReplyDeleteSo so so scary.
i was thinking the same thing this morning watching the sun rise -- so pretty, but at such a cost. :(
ReplyDeleteStay safe. :(
ReplyDeletei agree this is getting to be quite scary. i know a couple that have had to evacuate. let's hope it calms down soon. *fingers crossed*
ReplyDeletethe sky is quite eerie, even here in BFE where there are no fires.

cool picture. but not cool what's going on over in so-cal. I saw Matt Lauer there on the today show this morning. I can't believe how many homes the fires have destroyed :( so sad.
ReplyDeletev. cool photo. i'm so glad you are safe and well!
ReplyDeleteYes, these fires are scary. :/
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the news yesterday, I thought of you and wondered if you were close to all the fires. It's so sad. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI've got a friend out there whose had to evacuate his family and relocate.
ReplyDeleteMy prayers are with those who are being affected by this.
My sister lives in San Diego, but thank goodness they're all ok. They have to breathe all of that in and the kids can't go to school, but they are safe. I send my best to y'all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the linky love and for the peeps who gave me e-support. :) Such a pretty sunset...it really is too bad it comes at at a cost.
ReplyDeleteyeah, I have peeps in Hidden Hills, Victorville and SD county to worry about. I just wish it would rain already.
