Weekend, categorically

Stuff I got
I couldn't pass up a killer sale that diaper bag designer Petunia Pickle Bottom had recently online. I chose a gender-neutral orange backpack/shoulder bag, which features a foldout changing pad that even Brent was impressed with.
Diaper bag

Our friends Matt and Nicole sent us this lovely set of baby gifts.
Gifts from Nicole and Matt
It includes a super soft stuffed dog, a stylish rubber ducky, a onesie that reads "A nap is in my future," a parenting book for me called, "Sippy Cups Are Not For Chardonnay" and a humorous book for Brent called, "Bad Baby Names." Oh, and of course a super cute mini red and aqua suitcase! We love it all!

Last week justJENN and I met for dinner at The Counter, where I dusted off some of my public relations and marketing knowledge to give her some tips for her stationery business. As an unnecessary but very appreciated thank-you, she gave me this:
Shirt from justJENN
Ya get it? Absolutely adorable! I have to hurry up and wear it before my belly gets too big!

Our new appliances arrived on Saturday but they weren't able to hook-up our new stove, as they had promised, because of some liability issue. All my dreams of weekend baking are on hold until next week when the Gas Company comes out. Booo!

Places I ate
Pizzeria Mozza - After what seemed like weeks to coordinate availability and then waiting an additional month to get a reservation, Jami, Hil, justJENN and I met for dinner at Mozza. The company was fabulous, as always, and the food was delicious, but I think we all agreed that it didn't quite live up to the hype. After waiting a month to get in, I don't know, maybe I expected to leave with shinier hair or something. We each ordered different pizzas, which was a great way to taste a lot of flavors, although we could have easily split two amongst the four of us. I ordered the Squash Blossom with Burrata pizza. Amazing! I'd go back when the wait dies down.

Buddha's Belly - A new location opened up in Santa Monica recently. The restaurant offers a wide variety of Pan-Asian cuisine. Brent and I split some Vietnamese rolls and then each had a salad. I enjoyed the Asian chopped salad while Brent had the spicy seared tuna salad. We'll definitely go back, especially when we're in the mood for light cuisine.

Amandine Patisserie
- At first I thought I wouldn't blog about this place because it's such an amazing find, but judging from the crowd, Brent and I are the last people on Earth to know about it. It's a French cafe in West LA (somewhere between Brentwood and Santa Monica) specializing in baked goods, sandwiches and breakfast goodies. I had the strawberries and cream French toast, which was probably the best French toast I've had since our honeymoon. Brent enjoyed an omelette. I also took a slice of lemon loaf home that I enjoyed with some vanilla bean ice cream for an evening dessert. Mmm....

Movie I watched
Iron Man - While I don't read comic books, I enjoy most comic book films. I knew very little about Iron Man, but I adore Robert Downey Jr. so I was super excited to catch this flick. And it didn't disappoint! It dragged a little, but the storyline was great, as were the cast and special effects. Now if I can get that damn Black Sabbath song out of my head! Oh, if you haven't seen the movie yet, be sure to stay until the very end of the credits for a bonus scene!

"Ok, this next act asked me to read this. 'Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Molly Hatchet could not be here tonight, but they all had sex and are proud to announce the birth of their two-headed baby, Tenacious D.'" - Paul, Tenacious D movie

Was it the Regent's Secret PPB sale? I hit that one up and got two bags a couple of months ago. I love 'em, even though I don't have kids.

Blogger Michelle said ... (11:22 PM) :

Cute bag! I have always vowed that I would have a cool diaper bag when I had a kid...whenever that may be...

Next time you need the Gas Co, let me know! My dad & bro work for them (mom used to as well but recently retired). I could have pulled some strings!

Love the Paul Frank tee!

Blogger WeezerMonkey said ... (11:29 PM) :

Your weekend was so much better than mine.

Blogger mrsbumblebee said ... (11:47 PM) :

Sounds like a great weekend! I saw Iron Man as well and was very impressed.

Blogger alyssa said ... (6:53 AM) :

That's the cutest Paul Frank tee EVER! You must wear and it take a picture :) And the diaper bag too - so cute! I also liked Iron Man, surprisingly.

When I was in NY I saw billboards and stuff for Ironman EVERYWHERE! But I didn't get what the big deal was. Then I saw the cast and saw a preview, and I was convinced I wanted to see it. I like over-the-top action movies, which comic book movies usually are. Brad and I were going to go, but decided to wait until the opening-weekend crowds had cleared out.

Blogger Winnie said ... (7:03 AM) :

Eeee I love the t-shirt!! Please wear it and take a picture :)

Blogger Chas said ... (7:16 AM) :

That built in changing pad will definitely come in handy. I can't tell you how many times I've been caught out somewhere gross and realized I didn't have a changing pad.

I'm the same way with comic book movies...love them, but I've never been into comic books.

cute bag!

when i first moved to LA proper, i lived directly across the street from amandine. it was very dangerous...both crossing wilshire and all those delicious pastries.

buddha's belly in samo? ooh...must go soon.

too bad about mozza. i think cee said osteria was much better.

Blogger Kay said ... (8:36 AM) :

love the PPB bag and all the other great goodies you rec'd, let's meet up soon??

Blogger Hilary said ... (8:51 AM) :

Mozza was fun and yes, sadly, a little disappointing.

Buddha's Belly is owned by a guy who volunteers as a Big Brother through the organization I volunteer through! Also, Nicole got me hooked on their green beans...you must try them!

Blogger MissMissy said ... (9:28 AM) :

Very cute bag!!!

Loved Iron Man - I was not a huge RDJ fan before but now I am. He looked great! Sad to have missed the bonus scene.... : (

Blogger Felicia said ... (10:43 AM) :

That shirt is the cutest!

We saw a screening of Iron Man last week. I was actually not looking forward to it that much but the husband wanted to see it. I actually walked out saying that I enjoyed it.

Blogger California Girl said ... (12:39 PM) :

I LOVE the bag! So cute. I unfortunately, passed on the sale. I need to buy that stuff when I feel ready. Not there yet.

That shirt is TO DIE FOR! I love it. How hysterical.

I'm so happy you had a nice weekend!

Blogger Amber Marie said ... (1:02 PM) :

that paul frank shirt is too cute.

Blogger gretchen said ... (2:23 PM) :

Everyone is loving Iron Man, myself included. It sounds like you had a good weekend and, because I didn't say it before, pregnancy is really working for you. I can't wait to see more photos of the growing belly.

Blogger Robyn said ... (2:53 PM) :

I love the diaper bag! Great choice!

Blogger marissa said ... (6:33 PM) :

there's a bonus scene at the end? oh no! I missed it. loved the movie, loved robert downey jr, love that they broke canon.

sorry you found pizzeria mozza disappointing - I love it there. but I never make reservations any more. I just go with one other person and sit at the bar. or go at off times. I've never waited more than 10 min for a seat there. the new rabbit sausage and ramps pizza is unbelievable. have you been to osteria? its truly excellent.

Blogger carrster said ... (6:54 PM) :

Yay for presies!! :)

That book sounds perfect!

Blogger Terri: said ... (8:14 AM) :

super cute stuff!

i haven't seen "iron man" yet -- but i definitely planning on it.

Blogger R said ... (10:33 AM) :

Shopping, presents, food, friends, and a fun movie? I think your weekend rules.

Blogger Shan Kat said ... (12:02 PM) :

Just wait until you're hauling Em-Dash around for weekends like this. :) It adds a whole new demension!

That diaper bag is great... and to think I would have pegged you for something with Elmo on it... J/k, of course.

Those presents from your friends are awesome. Enjoy those. Eventually you'll have a baby shower and some well-meaning family members will give you some decidedly less cool stuff. :)

Blogger Aline said ... (12:30 PM) :

That is by far one of the snazziest diaper bags I have ever seen!

Awesome shirt!!

Blogger Victoria Winters said ... (2:57 PM) :

Love the diaper bag and that tee shirt is adorable! :)

Blogger Cheryl said ... (5:55 PM) :

Blogger Julie Q said ... (3:56 PM) :
