At last

Today is the final day of National Blog Posting Month -- aka NaBloPoMo. I'm amazed and proud that I was able to make my goal of posting every day this month, even if I had to phone in a few posts, literally.

Although I don't see myself blogging every day from here on out, I do think this was a nice way to boost my blogging habit. I'll definitely blog more than I was pre-November.

My mom is in town tonight, and we made an impromptu trip to a new Target in a remodeled mall to pick up some stuff for Em. As we entered the mall, I caught a glimpse of a sign that read "pandesal," which is a tasty Filipino bread. My mom and I stopped and then quickly ran into the store. My mom was as excited as I was to see that it was a Filipino bakery called Red Ribbon, which also offers Filipino meals.

We continued onto Target and came back before the bakery closed so we could pick up some halo-halo, a Filipino dessert that I'd never had before but had always wanted to try.

It's a shaved ice with sweet beans, coconut jelly, palm fruit, purple yam, sweet coconut strips, jackfruit and milk topped with leche flan, rice cripies and mango ice topping.

I ate about half of it once we got home. The verdict? Not bad, but not something I'd crave. I am excited to go back, though, and try some of the food. I know it won't be as great as my mom's home cooking, but it may serve as a worthy substitute.

  1. I really wanted to like halo-halo, but it just tasted like somebody went crazy at the toppings bar at Yogurtland.

Exciting that you found a Filipino restaurant, though!

  2. Congratulations! I'm so proud of you! I lasted, what? 2 or 3 days...pathetic. And to think you are working AND chasing a toddler around. Hats off to you, lady!

  3. I am always jealous that you have SO many different places to choose from to eat. I may not be that adventurous but I like more of a variety than I have to choose from here.

Congratulations on your NaBloPoMo- that's awesome!

  4. Oh, could you report back on their lumpia selection/taste? I still crave that stuff a ridiculous amount and have no idea how to make it. :(

  5. There's a Red Ribbon in the mall by my house - I love it! My co-worker once brought in chicken empanadas from there and they're so delicious that I can't pass the one in my mall without buying one. YUM! I really should try some of their other stuff sometime soon...

  6. Next time, try the Red Ribbon cake that has honeycomb in the middle. It is deeeelicious!

  7. Ooooh Red Ribbon!!! I love their Ensemada's... the brioche bread with butter and cheese on top. So freakin' good.

  8. hmm..never tried it, but it seems like too many ingredients to me

  9. I failed the challenge on like, day 6! I LOVE RR! They have the best cakes. Mmmm mocha chip or mango cake. I even like their little palabok plate. Yummy. Halo halo is an old favorite of mine too.

  10. Wow! I didn't know it was National Blog Month. I blogged everyday in November as well. A first for me. Good to hear it was the month to blog. How do you balance mommyhood, blogging, and work?? I'm going crazy over here.

  11. pandesal? yum.
    halo halo? gah-ross.

i wanted to do nablopomo, but by the time i remembered, it was already 11/4. boo.

  12. Eeee I think I know which mall you're talking about . . . I must look for this bakery! I <3 halo-halo.
