Thank you, thank you

I'm thankful that my wonderful in-laws decided to take us out for dinner tonight.

I'm thankful they chose Tavern, a great restaurant in nearby Brentwood.

We'd celebrated another occasion there earlier in the year, and we loved that it was an upscale restaurant that actually welcomes kids. They even have a fine-dining menu just for kids! (Even Em was surprised.)

I'm thankful that Tavern started us off with a persimmon and pomegranate salad with arugula, local walnuts and seal bay triple cream. Mmmmm.....triple cream...
Salad

I'm thankful they then served us an herb-roasted organic turkey breast and stuffed leg with mashed potato and gravy.

I'm thankful they also gave us two stuffings - Mom's traditional and Suzanne's chestnut, prune and cavolo. They also gave us brussels sprouts with pancetta and thyme.
Sides

I'm thankful there were sweet potatoes with sherry and roasted shallots, cranberry sauce with orange and mint (no pictures, sorry) and Italian broccoli with garlic and chili.
Brocolli

I'm thankful they gave us TWO kinds of pie - pumpkin with piloncillo and pepita tuile, and candied pecan with vanilla ice cream. I'm not usually a fan of pecan, but that was DAMN FABULOUS.

Oh, yeah, I'm also thankful for these two tasty treats.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

  2. That's a bit odd that you went out, but sometimes I forget that it's LA and the town doesn't shut down. :)

Hope your dinner was great and the fam is doing well.

  4. I've been wanting to go to Tavern with LMN, but (1) FIL only eats Asian food or high-end steak, and (2) nobody wants to go all the way west with me. Boo to them all.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving! Em is so sophisticated! I have a post ready to go about what a non-fine dining person I am. On the rare occasion I do it, I have to google menu items under the table because I don't know what they are!

  7. How fun! The food looks wonderful and the restaurant is so nice. My family used to go to restaurants a lot for Thanksgiving when we'd visit the grandparents in Carmel and I always thought it was pretty cool. Now, as the Thanksgiving chef, I think it is an awesome idea! Better get back to all my dirty dishes now...
