Let's hear it for New York

I am typing this from the air, on my way to the Big Apple for the highly anticipated BlogHer 2010. If you follow me on Twitter, you'll know that it's been all-consuming, particularly over the last week or so.

This is my second time at BlogHer. I attended the 2008 event in San Francisco, and like this year, it was half-business/half-pleasure. This year is different, though, because my network of online pals has increased exponentially. When deciding whether to make the trek to NYC for the conference, I promised myself (and Brent) that I'd make more of an effort than I did in 2006 to break out of my shell and really network. I've laid the groundwork, mainly via Twitter, and after this post I'm going to work on my list of must-meet folks. There are a lot to keep up with!

I'm excited to be rooming with Victoria, whom I've known online for what seems like forever, and a new friend, Julianne. We're planning to hit a lot of the parties together and do some sightseeing.

My arrival into the city will be a bit rushed so I can make it in time to a last-minute sponsored party co-hosted by my pal Heather with a special performance from....wait for it....GAVIN DEGRAW! I know, right? I could DIE! Last night I dreamt that it was a performance for literally a dozen of us, and I made a fool of myself when I told him all about how we met in 2004 and my co-workers thought the pic of him I kept on my desk was Ashton Kutcher. If by some chance I do get to chat with him tonight, I hope I can keep my fangirl tendencies together.

I had a last-minute freakout at the airport when I thought I'd forgotten my DSLR camera battery, but alas, I found it safely in my bag. Hopefully that means I'll return with lots of great photos from my trip.

This trip also marks the longest I've been away from Em, and Brent is trying to calm himself at the thought of playing Mr. Mom for so long. I convinced him to take Friday off so he and Em can have a three-day weekend full of fun adventures. I know they'll have a blast together, even with her inevitable toddler tantrums.

But really, how could you not have fun with a face like this?
