New York state of mind

Remember how excited I was to see Gavin DeGraw at a private party? This is how I kicked off BlogHer 2010.
Gavin DeGraw

The only way my view could've been any better was if I were on stage with him. I was literally the closest person in the room to him during his performance. It was like my own private concert. Sigh.

When I thought it couldn't get any better, this happened:
Gavin DeGraw

I fangirled all over him and said, "I'M PROBABLY THE BIGGEST FAN HERE! I'VE SEEN YOU AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMEs! I WAS SO SAD YOU CANCELLED YOUR LAST LA SHOW!" All with a big ol' goofy grin on my face. I was probably one sentence away from him calling security.

I was also excited to meet bloggers I've adored for so long, including my roomie, Victoria.

And Jenny.

I finally spotted Amalah at the infamous Sparklecorn party thrown by MamaPop. I made a beeline for her and fangirled out a little bit when I introduced myself, told her how much I adored her blog, particularly because our little ones are only a few weeks apart. She seemed to recognize my name, which made me giddy, and gave me a big ol' hug and smile. (I did not expert her to be so striking and tall and tiny. She's gorgeous, folks.) Looking back on it now, I think she wanted to chat more, but I was a goof and was like, "See ya!" and strolled off. Gah.

In the expo hall booth, I spotted Tamra from the Real Housewives of OC. She was even nicer than I expected. I was tempted to tell her what a jerk her ex-husband was to her, but I'm sure she already knows.

Tamra & I

I took this pic with Dora because Em suddenly knows who she is and screams out her name when she sees her.

I sent it to Brent, who replied with a distraught pic of Em that said, "Great, Mommy. Remind me to send you the backstage pic of me and John Mayer." Ha!

I had a great time at BlogHer, but Victoria helped make the event for me. It can be intimidating at those big events with 2,400+ folks, so we stuck together. Here we are at Sparklecorn.

And later at the CheeseburgHer after-party with our obligatory baghats.

Even though you can't see me in that photo above, Victoria's face is priceless. She was blitzed by then, screaming for a hula hoop (long story) and demanding to know why I'd only had two drinks. Shortly thereafter I escorted her back up to our room where she passed out and awoke the next morning wondering why her stomach felt less than stellar. Hmmm...

Really, though, beyond the online pals, swag, the "celebs," the parties, the debauchery, I did attend the daytime stuff about actual blogging. There were more sessions than I could physically attend, so I have some catching up to do on the live blogs and podcasts. However, what little I heard in the sessions, plus my time with all my other comrades was enough to inspire me to be a better writer, a better photographer and a better contributor to the online community I love so much.

"No, I'm going to tell Drew that I'm having a little welcome to the building party for him but there is no party and then when he shows up I'll laugh and say 'oh it's the wrong night' and then he'll laugh and say one glass couldn't hurt and then I will put my mouth on his mouth." - Liz, 30 Rock

  1. Yay! I'm so glad you had such a great first experience with BlogHer. It can definitely be super overwhelming.

I can't wait to get to hang out next year in San Deigo!

  3. First of all...holy weight loss batman! I can see it in your face! Woot!

Second, I'm jealous! I want to go next year since it will be in SD. I'm not a "blogger" by any means, but I'd love to meet some of my favorite bloggers and learn how I can be a better contributer to the interwebs that I love so much!

    Glad you had a blast!

  4. First - you look STUNNING in that last shot (well all of them, but that one is a total framer)! I laughed out loud at this post because of my goofiness. OMG. I was so drunk, but MAN was it fun! Thanks for being the BESTEST roomie and friend. Without you I would have been absolutely overwhelmed by all the strangers.

Here's to next year! Roomies again? Add Jen and Kerri Anne too? :)
