Art show. We're all going to the art show.

When our friend, Nicole, sent us info about an upcoming art exhibit inspired by Yo Gabba Gabba and featuring Brandon Bird, one of our favorite artists, we knew we had to go.

We weren't sure if we'd make it to the exhibit opening on Friday night, given that it started across town at Em's bedtime of 7 p.m. However, she had a nice and long late nap, so we headed out.

The exhibit was housed in the back area of Meltdown Comics, not far from the Sunset Strip. Our excursion started off with a bang when Brent spotted one of our favorite actresses, Emma Stone, strolling with a pal down the Strip.

We arrived at the event shortly after 7, and Em made a beeline to the display of Yo Gabba Gabba comic books at the front of the store. That was exciting enough as it was, but when we entered the bustling crowd in the gallery, she wasn't sure what to do with herself.

We snapped a pic in front of some decor similar to one of the character's lands. Forgive my camera phone pics -- I forgot our fancy camera at home.

We pushed through the growing crowds and oggled the exhibits, which were created by various artists.

I was intrigued by this photo as I've seen every episode a dozen times and didn't recognize this photo still. Excited to see this air!

Em enjoyed the art, too.

I loved, loved, loved these plush creations of the characters.

And these crotcheted versions.

I assumed there'd be a few fun surprises for opening night, but I was still surprised to see three of the five costumed characters make an appearance at the event. We watched as Em scanned the crowd and spotted them towering above. She repeated under her breath, "Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod." And she asked Brent, repeatedly, "Where's Brobee?" -- one of the two missing characters.

There was a professional photographer on site to take pics of the fans with the characters, and we snapped this grainy one with my phone.

As the crowd of fans for photos dwindled, we stood near the characters. In between photos, they'd wave at Em. I suggested she wave and blow them a few kisses, and when she did, they blew kisses back to her.

Her eyes were big as saucers.

She was smitten.

It was no wonder that she protested loudly when we made our way to the door.

The pieces in the show varied widely in prices. We found a couple really cool pieces well within our price range, but they were sold before we could snag them.

Luckily, there were some limited edition prints available of a few of our favorites, and some of them were from Brandon Bird. In fact, we discovered that it was him manning his print table.

Brent told him all about Brent's faux art gallery in his office and shared this pic of one of Brandon's prints, which our friends had given Brent, complete with an ornate frame.
Christopher Walken

Yes, that's Christopher Walken fixing a robot. What of it?

We picked up one of Brandon's prints, featuring the show's DJ Lance. Brent's brother bought us an exhibit poster. We had spotted Mark Mothersbaugh, lead singer of Devo and regular Yo Gabba Gabba guest, in the crowd. We were leaving at the same time, so we asked him to sign our poster, which he did gladly.

Brent and I love indulging the fangirl in Em at events like these. We're excited to see how much she enjoys the live show later this year. Good thing her parents are fans, too.

The exhibit runs until June 17, so local folks have plenty of time to check out the creations themselves.

wow that is so fun. my Jackson would have loved that! we are taking him to go see Yo Gabba Gabba live this summer. I think I remember you saying you went with Em earlier this year. How long was the show? Did she sit for the whole thing?
