t's been one of the most fun-filled concert seasons I've had in ages.
Back in May, my friend Ceci and I saw Julian Velard at Hotel Cafe. Minus the parking ticket, it was a great show. We also got some one-on-one time post-show. He was a doll and recognized me from my Twitter
Not long after that show, Brent and I enjoyed a date night with ourselves and Prince at the last of his dozen or so LA shows. Prince has been on my concert bucket list forever, and his show did not disappoint. He played FIVE ENCORES.
Let's not forget Sesame Street Live a couple of weeks ago. While we were at the Sesame Street show, I received a text from Ceci, asking if I'd like to join her at a private concert she'd just won tix for. The artist? Gavin DeGraw, my friends. GAVIN DEGRAW.
The show was hosted by a local radio station in its private performance area. Ceci and I were joined by just 18 other fans, and we found ourselves in the front row of his 3-song performance. Here's a video from that day, performing his newest single, "Not Over You."
We had a chance to meet him after the show, and when he said, "I'm Gavin. Nice to meet you," I said, "Well, I've actually met you twice before. Last time was at your BlogHer performance. I'm a huge fan." He seemed
My fangirl ride hit the ultimate high on Friday night when I joined five gal pals at the New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys show.
Left to right -- Jordan, Jonathon, Donnie...Wait a second...
Beyond getting to feel like a 12-year-old (when NKOTB was popular) and a 22-year-old (when BSB was popular), that show was like nothing else. I don't think I've ever been to a show where it was perfectly acceptable to just be crazy-go-nuts over the musicians. Even with John Mayer and Maroon 5, I feel like there's an expectation to be more about the musicianship and songs than the hotness of the boys. Friday's show was more like Chippendales who sang -- at least to us fans in attendance.
We all had/have our favorite New Kids/Backstreet members, and many of us woke up the next morning to little or no voice left after all that screaming. It was all worth it, though, and I'm praying to the concert gods that they'll do it again soon.
In a couple weeks I'll see Gavin DeGraw again, this time opening for Maroon 5 and Train at the Hollywood Bowl. It doesn't feel like summer if I don't get a good show in at the Bowl.
The last on my concert list is Yo Gabba Gabba Live in November. Technically, that's for Em, but Mom and Dad happen to be excited about it, too.
Seen any amazing shows lately?
