Beachy Keen

Last weekend was our hottest weekend in Portland, so on what was forecast to be 100 degrees, this pregnant gal convinced her husband to leave our non-air-conditioned home for a daytrip to the coast.

Plans for our original destination were thwarted by gobs of traffic on a freeway filled with half the state's residents who had the same idea we did. After moving a measly 25 miles after an hour and a half, we changed plans and ended up at the lovely Rockaway Beach.

The water was freezing, but that was OK because Em was more excited about the sand anyway.

As she and Brent dipped their toes in the chilly water, I couldn't help but notice that my view of them from flat on my back was a bit obscured by my baby gut.

A trip to this part of the state isn't complete without a stop at the famous Tillamook Cheese factory.

As it was past 3 p.m., the factory workers were gone for the day, but we still got to take a peek at the massive factory equipment, as well as sample a few cheeses.

And we couldn't pass up some ice cream for the road! Em chose strawberry, her usual fav. Brent had a root beer float, and I was in the mood for root beer ice cream in a freshly made waffle cone bowl.

Although our time on the road was longer than we'd like, the day turned out absolutely lovely.
