Bump Watch 2012: 21 Weeks

One of these days I'll actually do my hair for these pics, I promise!

Today marks 21 weeks, which blows mah mind. More than halfway there! The shirt I'm sporting above is part of the Em pregnancy collection. I'm happy to report that for the most part, the maternity wardrobe will still work just fine and isn't totally dated.

While we had our elective ultrasound a few weeks ago, today we had our official anatomy scan at my midwife's office. Mimi is still a "she," which I was only slightly worried about, especially since I already have a nice little stash of girlie clothes for her and have already picked out a nursery color scheme.

Our pics from today's scans will be sent to a radiologist for an advanced look, but the ultrasound tech was pretty confident that everything is looking good. The blood screen results from my last appointment were great, so our chances for birth defects seem slim.

Sweet Mimi looking sweet

I've recently started having some minor pelvic pain, similar to what happened to me late in my pregnancy with Em. My midwife thinks it's probably symphysis pubis dysfunction, which is about as exciting as it sounds, and I'm hoping it doesn't get much worse. It's just a little annoying at this point.

But otherwise, I'm feeling good and blessed!

Bump Watch 2012: 19 Weeks

This week's bump pic is an iPhone self-portrait since Brent's been swamped at work. Plus, you get to see me in all my post-Zumba glow and glory.

I have to say -- I'm finding it much more difficult to come up with name options since we have another name to pair it with. With Em, our world was our oyster. This time our world is a specific breed of oysters, ya know? We're thinking about how they'll flow together, how they'll sound yelled across the house at the same time, crazy stuff like that.

Even coming up with an online pseudonym for her, a la Em Dash, has proven difficult. The thing about Em's online name is that anyone who doesn't realize it's short for Em Dash (the nickname that stuck when I told Brent our pregnancy book said, "Your baby is the size of this dash --") can just assume it's short for something like Emily or Emerson. So if we gave our second gal a random nickname like Em's recently suggested "Goomie," unknowing readers may think I'm nuts naming our gals as such. Thankfully Em suggested a name recently that wasn't too out there, so blogosphere, I'm happy to announce our baby girl,  henceforth known as Mimi!

At 19 weeks we're fast approaching the halfway mark. I'm feeling Mimi (eeeee!) kick with more frequency, and now the name of the game is trying to get Brent to feel her move from the outside. I've been feeling her more easily from the outside, but I can never seem to time them with my attempts to get Brent to feel her. After the millionth attempt last night, where I grabbed his hand and threw it on my belly, he joked, "You know, I really do believe that you're pregnant."

This week at Zumba, which I've managed to keep up with an average of three times a week, I noticed that my big belly is throwing off my center of gravity a bit. I've already toned down my intensity, but now I'm even more mindful with the belly leading the way. Not ready to hang up my dancing shoes yet, though!

In other updates, I chose and ordered an adorable diaper bag this week, which I'll share upon arrival. Such a tease, I know.

Bump Watch 2012: 18 Weeks

18 weeks

me and em

Yesterday was 18 weeks. We're still riding high from the news that we're expecting a second sweet little girl. Although Em predicted that we were giving her a little brother, she's fully on board with a little sister now. The tipping point was our shopping excursion this weekend to buy an outfit for the baby. She had more fun "oooohing" and "ahhhing" over the tiny pink ensembles than I did, and she eventually settled on this sweet little set:

Em doesn't quite grasp that we still have to wait a while before the baby arrives. Five months from now is a long time for an adult -- I can't imagine a kid wrapping their brain around it. She asks when the baby will get here, and then she remembers our previous discussions. "Your belly will get bigger and BIGGER AND BIGGER and then POP! Out comes the baby, right, Mommy?!"

If only delivery were that easy!

In other updates, baby girl continues to rock and roll in there. The other night we watched her movements from the outside, which is one of my favorite parts of being pregnant.
