No Tricks, Just Treats

Our first fall season as a family of four has been a sweet success so far.

We took a quick trip to a local pumpkin patch, something we've done annually since we became parents. We still managed to snap some good pics of our gals, although the pumpkin patch wasn't as picturesque as I'd hoped. Next year we'll plan ahead and visit a more festive patch a little further away. And how crazy that Mimi will be old enough to run around the pumpkin patch next year?

I was so excited about Mimi's first Halloween that I couldn't resist this costume when I ordered it back in September.

At our weekly mom group, Mimi sported Em's first real Halloween costume.

When Em's costume for this year arrived, I couldn't help but try a piece for myself.

"I'm BATMOM!"

Em donned it much better than I did, though, along with her trusty sidekick, Robin.

When Em declared she wanted to be Batgirl for Halloween, I joked with Brent that Mimi should be Robin. Then I found this Robin costume at Target that was too perfect to pass up.

Em's class had a shortened day after their Halloween party and parade, so that afternoon we took the Batmobile to the nearby mall for some warm-up trick-or-treating.

Then Brent met us at his parents' house, where we had dinner, put Mimi to bed and then hit their neighborhood for some trick-or-treating. We all laughed when we saw what my in-laws had picked up to give out.

I had mixed emotions about their purchase, because something savory is so unexpected. However, as many of my Instagram pals noted, it could be a definite welcome break from all the sweets.

The neighborhood seemed uncharacteristically quiet compared to previous years, but we still had a blast taking Em around. At some point I saw that she had two full-size bags of M&M's in her bucket. She said, "Yeah, I don't want them." I told her I'd be happy to get rid of them for her -- wink, wink. She said, "Yes, we should throw them in the trash RIGHT NOW!"

Not what I had in mind.

  2. eeee love their costumes, so cute! Em is one adorably awesome Batgirl.

Also, I highly recommend Underwood Farms in Moorpark, it's where Matt and I ventured to this year and it was a great time. Definitely a fun place for kids and adults.
